Soy, have you heard this one before?

The Bite
A soybean and a piece of fruit walk into a bar. The soybean says to the fruit, “Baby, you look good enough to eat!” Bad-dum-ching! Give it up for SOYJOY, the all-natural soy bar that packs a serious flavor punch(line) in flavors like Mango Coconut, Raisin Almond, and Apple. Gluten-free and chock-full of protein, SOYJOY nutrition bars use only whole, non-genetically modified (aka non-GMO) soybeans and real fruit to deliver the goods, because there’s just nothing funny about frankenfood. No joke.

Company Background
Feeding folks in Japan since 2006, SOYJOY was brought to the US by Pharmavite, makers of health food store fave NatureMade and its arsenal of natural multivitamins and herbs. Holistic health is the name of SOYJOY’s snack bar game, and now it’s getting physical, too: Watch for its Art of Optimism Tour, a yoga party/10-city circuit through DC, Denver, Boston, NYC, Chicago, LA, San Diego, SF, Seattle, and Baltimore. Each stop along the way brings free yoga workshops, lectures on healthy living, green lifestyle exhibitors, activities to keep the little ones busy while you take care of yourself, and nut-soy-serious music to get your booty shaking.

Why Care?

  • SOYJOY’s bars are made from whole ground soybeans, not the popular replacement soy protein isolate (which contains nitrates, a possible carcinogen).
  • SOYJOY soybeans are not genetically modified – good news, since GM foods have been in stores only since the 90s, and we don’t know the long-term health risks.
  • You won’t find even one preservative or synthetic chem in SOYJOY’s line of bars.
  • Each bar packs 4-5 grams of protein, real fruit, and plenty o’ fiber.
  • Veg-head friendly, Soyjoy bars are low glycemic, not to mention gluten- and wheat-free.

  1. It turns out that SoyJoy may in fact contain GM soy after all because of its link to monsanto. It doesnt seem likely monsanto would promote SoyJoy unless they were using it as a covert testbed or outlet for their own GM soy.
