packingFeeling like the long tail is the only difference between you and a rodent?

The Bite
Lighten up. Now that many airlines allow only one checked bag, it makes sense for your wallet and the planet not to take your whole rat’s nest with you on your trip.

The Benefits

*A not-so-ratty planet. The less you take on the plane, the less fuel it has to use – and emissions from planes contribute to global warming at 2-4 times the rate of land vehicles (such as cars).
*Saving up for an eco-exterminator. Last month, AirTran joined Continental, Delta, Northwest, and US Airways in charging customers who check more than one bag – and United and American charge even for one.
*Easier scurrying around your destination. Fewer bags mean less hassle. Plus, most hotels offer necessities such as shampoo and hair-dryers.

Personally Speaking
A friend of mines’ trick to packing light is to pick one base color (black or brown) for all of her outfits so that everything she brings is easier to mix and match.
