Several things are happening to your stomach during situps. Motor nerves are stimulating muscle fibers, and muscle fibers are contracting and relaxing. Chemical and mechanical interactions are occurring. Different types of contractions happen in different types of muscles. Your intestines are being “massaged” and your core is being strengthened, which brings health to your body and spine.

Amazing things happen to create a muscle contraction. Muscles are made up of many different fibers connected to your bones by tendons. When you lie flat on your back, your abdominal muscles are relaxed. As you move to sit up, your brain instantaneously fires a message through a motor nerve, which stimulates your stomach muscle fibers. Inside those fibers, an energy cell is used to pull two proteins together, which shortens your stomach muscle, pulls on your ribs and causes you to sit up. If you do a significant number of situps, the energy stored in the muscle gets used. This is when you feel muscle burn. Lactic acid builds up and muscle fibers experience microscopic tissue damage. This tearing down of the muscle is repaired later when your body is at rest. Your bloodstream carries away the lactic acid and your stomach muscle is repaired stronger.

During situps, your stomach could be doing three different types of contractions. An isometric contraction is when a muscle is holding, but not shortening or lengthening. Sit with your legs stretched out straight, tuck under your trunk and lower your torso back. Hold this position for two breaths. This is an isometric stomach exercise. When you sit up, your stomach muscle is shortening. This is a concentric contraction. If you were to slowly lower back down, your stomach muscle would be lengthening while under contraction. This is an eccentric contraction. Each type of contraction uses the muscle differently.

Your intestine and spine are reliant on your stomach muscles. They are both healthier if your stomach muscles are toned. The situp motion pushes gently in on your intestine, which gives it a massage and helps move food and gases along. At the same time the abdominal exercises are supporting your intestine, they are also supplying support to your spine. The spine alone cannot support the weight of your organs. Your toned abdominal wall provides all-around support for your spine. The result of abdominal exercises goes deeper than a beautiful body. It supplies you with long-term health in your core.

According to the latest news, an expedition is getting under way in the South Pacific to investigate one of the most seismically-active fault lines in the world. Researchers are planning to study the Tonga Trench – a deep feature where the Pacific tectonic plate is being forced under the Indo-Australian plate. The island nation of Tonga is regularly hit by tremors – most recently a 6.4 magnitude quake offshore last month. The research expedition will last about one month.

The focus of the study will be an unusual zone on the seabed where undersea volcanoes are being dragged into the fault. Scientists want a better understanding of how the submarine mountains affect the likelihood of earthquakes. The volcanoes lie on the 4,000km-long Louisville Ridge and either act as a brake on the Pacific plate – or intensify the quakes which follow. The area where they are pulled into the seabed suffers relatively fewer tremors than other stretches of the fault line.

The study – funded by Britain’s Natural Environment Research Council (Nerc) – will carry out surveys and develop 3D models during seven transits of the region. One of the lead scientists on the expedition, Professor Tony Watts of Oxford University, told: “We want to know whether subducted seamounts are holding up earthquakes or whether they cause earthquakes. This is important to find out so that we can learn what controls earthquakes and make better assessments about where they may occur in the future.”

According to Professor Watts, more data is needed on the deep structure of the Tonga Trench to understand the forces at work. “We need to know whether the seamounts are more or less intact as they are carried into the trench or have been damaged or decapitated. If we find that there is a link between seamounts and earthquakes then imaging of the seafloor will put us in a much better position to understand future quakes and tsunamis.”

If you suffer from sleep deprivation you are physically putting yourself in danger along with risking your health. To solve your physical problem you need to understand what is happening. For many people this requires a real look at their lifestyle and their health. What is causing your sleep deprivation? Here are a few situations that may be the cause:

Emotional stress and excitement – If you are under stress or overly excited this can be a cause.

Medications – If you are taking a new medication for your medical condition and it is keeping you awake consult your physician.

Caffeine – If you eat foods high in caffeine, a natural stimulant, this can be another cause.

While these are the most common causes there are some sleep disorders which can also be the cause.

Insomnia, nightmares and excessive snoring can be additional causes for sleep deprivation. You may not be able to breathe properly while sleeping. This is called sleep apnea, a very serious condition that causes you to wake up to clear your throat so you can breathe. You may not remember wakening up but you will feel tired.

Taking too many sleeping pills can interact with this condition. Sleep deprivation is a condition that can improve and be overcome with treatment. It is also a condition that can cause health risks later on.

Are they harmful or not?

In truth, even plants and fruits contain a trace of such minerals in them. Apples, for instance, contain 3-5 mg of aluminum as it’s one of the most abundant elements that can be found in the surface of the Earth. But do you hear anyone telling you that apples are dangerous to your health? On the contrary, what we are more likely to hear is that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

And so it must be with liquid vitamins as well. Containing a slight amount of colloidal mineral doesn’t mean it’s bad for our health right away. Colloidal minerals, are above all else, naturally occurring elements and cannot therefore be avoided.

At the end of the day, however, it’s still up to you whether or not you wish to take vitamin supplements in liquid or solid form. What really matters is what you prefer and which will ultimately work better for you.

Oxford University research and other centers found that it cut overall cancer deaths by at least a fifth.

Experts say the findings show aspirin’s benefits often outweighed its associated risk of causing bleeding. Aspirin is already known to cut the risk of heart attack and stroke among those at increased risk. But the protective effects against cardiovascular disease are thought to be small for healthy adults, and aspirin increases the risks of stomach and gut bleeds.

However, this latest research shows that when weighing up the risks and benefits of taking aspirin, experts should also consider its protective effect against cancer. Those patients who were given aspirin had a 25% lower risk of death from cancer during the trial period and a 10% reduction in death from any cause compared to patients who were not given the drug.

Every time that we pass a wall mirror in a mall or at a friend’s place, we are exposed and pose as we would like others to see us. The wall mirror is an emotional reflector, one of conquest, crash, self-loathing, pity and indulgence. Mirroring is the most pervasive device for the identification parade. The myth of Narcissus to be fascinated by his own image takes our eternal obsession with the mirror one step further.

According to Feng Shui wall mirrors are used to attract, redirect, or move the flow of energy in a living space. Wall mirrors are great for missing corners and to visually enhance the undersized quarters. Oak frame or metal, floor to ceiling or peer mirror to add depth to the space, in the malls or the staircase, parlors or the halls the mirror is not just a symbol of vanity but of self-awareness.

The wall mirrors showcase different facets and angles of ourselves and every revealed reflection tells a story; the story of envy and desire. It sometimes raises questions and at other times answers them in fragments, as a whole or multiplied many times over. Be it application of make-up, shaving, cutting hair, fixing one’s tie, in absence of mirrors all glitz would be divorced from reality.

“When looking for faults use a mirror, not a telescope”, a wise man said. In the middle of all the kitsch and cacophony of the world, no matter how hard pressed for time we may be but we don’t forget to spare time for mirroring ourselves.

The cerebral cortex is an area of the brain that plays an important role in reward, impulse control and decision making.

German researchers obtained high-resolution 3-D images of the brain structures of 22 smokers and 21 people who never smoked. Using these images, the scientists calculated the thickness of the cerebral cortex in each participant. On average, smokers had a thinner medial orbito-frontal cortex than nonsmokers. The thickness of this region decreased in relation to heavier daily consumption of cigarettes and the number of years a person had been a smoker.

However, a direct cause-and-effect isn’t clear, said the team at the Charite Universitatsmedizin Berlin and of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), the German National Metrology Institute. They said further research is needed to determine whether smoking causes this region of the brain to become thinner or whether people who have a thinner cortex region by nature are more likely to become smokers.

The results suggest the ability to produce sperm originated 600 million years ago. The gene, called Boule, appears to be the only gene known to be exclusively required for sperm production in animals ranging from an insect to a mammal.

The discovery of Boule’s key role in perpetuating animal species offers a better understanding of male infertility, a potential target for a male contraceptive drug, and a new direction for future development of pesticides or medicine to fight infectious parasites.

Prior to the new discovery, scientists didn’t know whether sperm produced by various animal species came from the same prototype. In many evolution scenarios, things develop independently. As an example, birds and insects both fly, but the wings of each originated and evolved completely independently.

Researchers discovered the presence of the Boule gene in sperm across different evolutionary lines: human, mammal, fish, insect, worm and marine invertebrate. The search required sperm from a sea urchin, a rooster, a fruit fly, a human and a fish. The findings were unexpected because many sex-specific genes, including other genes involved in sperm production, are usually under evolutionary pressure to change.

“It’s really surprising because sperm production gets pounded by natural selection,” researcher said. “It tends to change due to strong selective pressures for sperm-specific genes to evolve. There is extra pressure to be a super male to improve reproductive success. This is the one sex-specific element that didn’t change across species. This must be so important that it can’t change.”

The genital wart is one that will be easily recognized. These are also known as veneral warts and also as condylmata acuminata. Warts in this manner are caused by a skin infection, which is known as PHV infection. It is possible to have the HPV infection without having genital warts. Genital warts are often passed along during sexual intercourse, but not all those who have genital warts are going to know they are infected until the warts are bigger and a little more painful.

Warts are a virus that can be passed by touching, sitting and skin to skin contact. The most common types of warts are seen on people’s hands and feet, which are a different form of a wart but are generally the same thing if you are wondering what genital warts really are. These are also associated with the tumors that form under and in the skin. The tumors are forms of the HPV infection, and will form warts as the body rids the infection from the body. If you have warts on the hand or on the feet, you are not going to spread this to your genitals. If you know someone who has genital warts, they are not going to give you warts on your hands and the same goes the other way around.

For the woman, if you have genital warts, they will appear on the inside and the outside of the vagina. If the woman has anal sex, the genital warts could appear on the anus, and the same is for the man. If a man is having anal sex with another, the genital warts could appear on the anus area as well.

The warts will appear in the same area, taking a long time to spread out. Sometimes the warts will disappear on their own, but only in rare cases often times the genital warts will spread becoming crusty and become large areas of warts over the private areas of a male or female. If you have genital warts, and someone performs oral sex, the genital warts can be transmitted to that person. Genital warts can be treated by a doctor, and with medications. If not treated, often times genital warts can become troublesome not only for the person suffering with them, but for people you love and want to share that special relationship with.

If you have sex with someone that you later finds out has genital warts, you most likely are going to end up with genital warts are well. It can take anywhere from one month to three months for genital warts to appear and become large enough for a person to notice them. Always protect yourself by avoiding having sex with anyone you don’t know or trust not to have genital warts.

Mainly, genital warts are a type of wart that is only found on your private parts of the body.
